The exhibition explored the tension between preservation and disappearance — between protecting what remains and letting go of what is destined to vanish. The title Väliaine refers both to the building’s history as a paint store and to the Finnish word for a medium: a substance through which energy travels.
Working directly with the existing architecture, the artists used the temporary nature of the building as both material and context. The resulting works existed in dialogue with a place already approaching the end of its life.
For the exhibition, Laatio created a 5 × 3 metre mural titled KATVE, using house paint and acrylics. A selection of his paintings was exhibited on the reverse side of the same wall.
