ABOUT ME

Journey of exploration

After graduating from high school, Laatio spent a few years trying to become an architect and a doctor but failed at both. Realizing his strengths lay elsewhere, he applied to film school. Graduating in 2011, Laatio became a founding member of Mutant Koala Pictures, a film production company based in Oulu, Finland.

NEW FRONTIERS WITH BRUSHES

Following the completion of two Heavy Trip films, Laatio shifted his creative focus to acrylic painting, channeling his fascination with the darker aspects of the human experience. His work embraces quiet introspection, drawing inspiration from music, architecture, and the shadowy corners of the mind. Often exploring supernatural themes, his moody paintings hint at the unknown. While his films reached broad audiences, his painting practice is deeply personal, allowing him to create free from the pressures of large productions. For Laatio, painting is a way to reconnect with raw, hands-on creativity, capturing the haunting beauty of life’s hidden, darker layers.

Laatio’s art style is defined by rough textures, raw emotion, and a deliberate embrace of ugliness. His paintings reflect a sense of struggle, exploring themes of loss, isolation, and fractured self-image. Through this visceral approach, Laatio confronts uncomfortable truths, using his art as a means to channel personal turmoil and give voice to the quiet pain that often lingers beneath the surface.
